A jammed door lock can happen for many reasons including weather and alignment problems.
Old door lock stuck.
1 loosen the setscrew on the knob s shank.
Just check to see if a different key will work or.
Place the end of the straw into the opening of the lock where you normally insert your key.
The fix in instances with a door latch stuck because it is jammed by rust and other materials it is always best to disassemble the lock and do a bit of cleaning.
Remove the old lock.
Another common cause is that the screws on the door knob are loose.
These are all problems you can repair yourself.
You can tighten a simple interior mortise lockset like the one shown at left as follows.
Remove the cover or faceplate of your mortise lock or surface mounted rim lock to repair it.
Locate the screws holding the lock in place on the inside of the door.
For some models you ll need to remove a few screws where the handle.
From fixing the alignment to lubricating the lock a little work gets your door back in order.
Letting the components sit fully submerged in a vinegar of about 5 acidity will do the job of separating the gunk from your metal.
Remove these screws unscrew one side of the door knob and pull the door handle and lock assembly out of the door.
2 hold the knob on the other side of the door and turn the loose knob clockwise until it fits snugly.
3 if this does not help remove the knob.
Fixing the issue yourself can save you money and many of the issues are relatively quick and easy to handle.
If the malfunctioning lock is in the door handle there will be at least two screws securing the door handle to the door.
Remove the exterior door knob if necessary.
The key may be worn or damaged so it will not work in the cylinder.
Find and remove the screws that attach the interior door knob to the door.
Soak your door lock in kerosene for 24 hours if it isn t attached to a door and has been rusted shut.
A simple solution i have used in the past comes in handy again.
Pull the knob out from the door.
The most common is that the oil inside the door knob lock is old and has seized causing the lock to catch.
